The Holy Spirit Brings the Dead to Life by the Righteousness of Christ
In returning to His Father by way of the cross and resurrection, Christ Jesus sends “the Helper” to His Church, that is, “the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father.” The Spirit testifies of Christ and glorifies Him, by taking what is His and declaring it to the world in the preaching of repentance for the forgiveness of sins (John 15:26; 16:7, 14). He convicts the world of sin by the word of the Law, He forgives sins and justifies sinners by the Word of the Gospel, and He bestows the faith that says “Amen” to this righteousness of God (John 16:8–11). Therefore, the Lord pours out His Spirit on the apostles, that by their preaching, the Spirit should be given to His entire Church. As the multitudes are gathered from all the nations by “this sound,” that is, by the preaching of “the mighty works of God” in Christ Jesus, so does God the Father pour out the Spirit of His Son “on all flesh” (Acts 2:6, 11, 17). The Lord God breathes upon the slain, and so shall they live; for so the Lord has spoken, and He shall do it (Ezek. 37:5–14).
Dr. Martin Luther:
PENTECOST - John 15:26–27, 16:4b–15 (May 20)
“This additional gift will be My Spirit, who will renew in your hearts these words I am now speaking to you and will fully clarify them for you, so that you will understand them ever better and know what both I and the world mean in your lives. He will give you the strength and courage to enable you to continue to adhere to Me and to pursue your course. For if He were not with you and you were to engage in daily combat with both the devil and the world, you would not be able to bear this.” Luther's Works 24:290

John 15:26–27; 16:4b–15 (SBLGNT)
5 νῦν δὲ ὑπάγω πρὸς τὸν πέμψαντά με καὶ οὐδεὶς ἐξ ὑμῶν ἐρωτᾷ με· Ποῦ ὑπάγεις;
Literal Translation
John 15:26-27
(26) And when the Comforter comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of Truth who proceeds from the Father, that One will witness concerning Me.
(27) And you also witness, because from the beginning you are with Me.
John 16:4b-15
(4b) But I did not say these things to you from the beginning because I was with you.
(5) But now I am going to Him who sent Me. And not one of you asks Me, Where are You going?
(6) But because I have said these things to you, grief has filled your heart.
(7) But I tell you the truth, it is advantageous for you that I should go; for if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come to you. But if I go, I will send Him to you.
(8) And having come, that One will convict the world concerning sin, and concerning righteousness, and concerning judgment.
(9) Concerning sin, because they do not believe into Me;
(10) and concerning righteousness, because I am going to the Father, and you no longer see Me;
(11) and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.
(12) I have yet many things to tell you, but you are not able to bear now.
(13) But when that One comes, the Spirit of Truth, He will guide you into all Truth, for He will not speak from Himself, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will announce the coming things to you.
(14) That One will glorify Me, for He will receive from Mine and will announce to you.
(15) All things which the Father has are Mine. For this reason I said that He receives from Mine, and will announce to you.
